Product Review: Benefit they’re Real! push-up liner

Benefit they're Real! push-up liner

I’m always looking for the perfect eye liner. I’ve found some that come pretty close but not perfect. When I heard about Benefit’s they’re Real! push-up liner, I had to make a trip to Ulta. I use Benefit’s they’re Real! mascara, which I love, so I had high expectations for the eye liner.

The packaging highlights the following results (observed in a consumer panel survey):

  • 91% said it was long-wearing
  • 81% said it was waterproof
  • 86% said it hugged the lashline
  • 84% said eyes looked visibly larger

The two stats that meant the most to me was long-wearing and waterproof. I wear contacts so my eyes tend to water. I need an eye liner that does not run, smudge or disappear mid-day.

photo 6I was a little concerned when the Ulta cashier asked if I knew how to use it. What? I was clearlywearing eyeliner, which I have been using since I was 18. Why would he ask that? Well, this eyeliner is a little different than the norm. The tip of the eyeliner pen is made of a rubber-like material. The gel liner is disbursed through the center of the tip by twisting the base of the pen. The tip is supposed to provide a smooth lash-hugging application and an easily drawn line. So, is it as good as it claims to be?

linerLash hugging? There was a slight learning curve, but not as much as I had anticipated. It definitely glides on easily – no tugging or pulling on the eyelid. The AccuFlex tip allowed by to get really close to my lashes – top lashes and bottom lashes.

Long wearing & Waterproof? I’d say so. I lined my top and bottom lashes and even lined my waterline. I’ve lined my waterline before and it never stays very long. I was very pleased with the staying power of this liner.

Pros: Easy application, long-lasting, smudge proof

Cons: Non-smudging – this is a bad thing? I like to blend my lower lash liner so that the line is not as harsh. This liner is so smudge proof that I wasn’t able to do that. Not really a con, but something you should be aware of.  At $24, it’s a little pricier than other eye lines I have used.

So far, I really like this eyeliner. If it continues to work this good, it may be a permanent addition to my make-up bag!

As a side note, make sure you have a good make-up remover. I was a little worried when the Ulta cashier said “I hope you have a good makeup remover.” No worries – my oldie but a goodie Ponds Cold Cream worked like a charm.

If you’re still a little unsure if this product is right for you, provides a great video tutorial for creating three different looks with this eyeliner:

Until next time, stay beautiful! ~ Devon
